Ghost by Raina Telgemeier

Reviewd by Daniel R., 4th Grade

If you love the day of dead , then this is the right book. Of course it is! I hope you like it! But I can’t tell you all of it so I'll tell you half of the story.

A girl named Cat and her sister named Maya were moving to Bahia de la Luna where it was foggy and windy. And then, when they got there, their mom said, “Go explore the town. So Cat and Maya went to explore the tow.  Maya found a secret pathway that led them to a forest and they saw half of the ocean. Then they went to an arcade and in the arcade they found this guy. He said, “The ghost tour doesn’t start until three.”  Maya was surprised, but Cat said,  “He’s just messing with us.”  Then, they went back home. Then their neighbor invited them for dinner and when they went to the neighbors house, Cat and Maya saw the guy from the arcade.  His dad told them his name was Carlos. She was really mad. But when she tried the food, she loved it. P.S. It was tamales. After that, they went home and when Cat went to bed she was scared because there was a lot of whooshing that made the window rattle.

She saw eyes from the tree, but it was a cat. The next morning, Maya and  her mom were talking about her Grandma. Then Maya asked for Cat’s phone.  Cat asked,  “You gonna play hungry birds or something?” Then Maya said, “No I’m texting Carlos.” Then Cat was really surprised. Later on, Carlos came because he was going to help Maya with the friend for her grandma. Carlos and Maya went outside to collect things for the friend. The next day Carlos and Cat  and Maya went out for a ghost tour because Cat and Carlos made a deal. They went to the Arcade and Maya tried one game but it didn’t work and Carlos was telling them all about the in the arcade first. Next  they went to the docks. Then Maya wanted to see a ghost. After that, they went to the woods where it was cold and dark and windy. Cat got lost but she found Maya and Carlos in the middle of a ton of ghosts. Then Carlos told Maya to hold a glass of soda and then a ton of ghosts came to her because they like her because of the orange soda. Then they started to dance with Maya and play with her. What will happen next?

You have to read the rest to find out what might happen. I finished this book. It was a great book. I loved the ending. It was funny and I hope you think it’s funny too. When you finish the book, look out for more books by Raina Telgemeier.

My Lucky Day By Keiko Kasza
Review By Jaime M, 4th Grade

If you would want to read a tale full of humor, surprise, and wit, read My Lucky Day by Keiko Kasza. It is a tale about a fox who thinks it’s his lucky day because a delicious-looking piglet knocks at his door.

At the beginning of the book we meet Mr. Fox, a fox that is preparing to hunt for his dinner in the woods. As he polishes his claws to prepare for his dinner, he hears a sudden knock at his door. He hears someone yelling outside, “Hey rabbit, are you home? Mr. Fox was puzzled and thought to himself, “Rabbit?,” if there were any rabbits here, I would have eaten them for breakfast.

Mr. Fox went to the door and saw a delicious piglet standing there. Mr. Fox grabbed the piglet and said, “This must be my lucky day.” He ran into his kitchen to get his roasting pan and put the piglet in it. The piglet told Mr. Fox, “I’m filthy, shouldn’t you wash me first?” Mr. Fox agreed and gave piglet a nice bath. After the bath, Mr. Fox put the piglet back into the roasting pan. Piglet then told Mr. Fox, “I am a very small piglet, shouldn’t you fatten me up a bit to get more meat?” Mr. Fox thought about it and agreed, so he prepared a nice dinner for piglet. After the nice dinner, Mr. Fox put the piglet back into the roasting pan. Mr. Fox was now ready to cook the fattest piglet in the county.  What will piglet ask for next? Will Mr. Fox finally get to eat the delicious piglet? Well, you need to read the book to find out.

This book was very fun to read. The illustrations in this book are so full of color and depict the characters perfectly. In addition, the writer is so descriptive that I felt that I was in the book. I highly recommend My Lucky Day.
